These Are The Passports That Open the Most Doors in the World


Traveling throughout the world is a pleasure and even for others a necessity. That is why the fewer documents, cumbersome requirements and questions we have to avoid to enter a country, much better.

Therefore, having a “good” passport is very demanded, especially to go through border controls without so many headaches.

A recent study evaluates the 190 nations of the planet, with Germany and Singapore having the privilege of having the best passports in the world.

The index shows which passports need less visas to travel and based on that places them in a ranking. It is updated annually by Henley & Partners, a global residency and citizenship planning firm. The data comes from the International Air Transport Association.

Position # 1: Japan

With Japan´s passport you can enter 189 countries without a visa, being a new record. This country ranks number one on the list of most “powerful passports in the world” and managed to displace Singapore, having been the previous leader.

Position # 2: Germany and Singapore

Traveling with a passport from Germany or Singapore you are guaranteed to enter 188 countries without a visa.

Position # 3: Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Switzerland and South Korea

In the third place are six countries, five European and one Asiatic. You can enter 187 nations without a visa thanks to these passports.

Position # 4: USA, Norway, United Kingdom, Austria, Luxembourg, Holland and Portugal

In the fourth place is the USA along with 6 other countries allowing all of them to enter without visas to 186 countries. The US climbed one place compared to the previous ranking and the United Kingdom has remained stable.

Position # 5: Canada, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden and Ireland

The passports of these countries without a visa are allowed to enter in 185 countries. The firm Henley & Partners publishes the list since 2006.

Position # 6: Australia and Greece

Australia and Greece are positioned in the sixth position allowing their passport to enter 183 countries without a visa.

Post # 7: New Zealand, Czech Republic and Malta

The passports of the three countries in the seventh position allow entering another 182 without a visa.

Position # 8. Iceland

The citizens of this small North Atlantic country can enter 181 nations without having to process a special permit.

Position # 9: Malaysia, Hungary and Slovenia

The passports of these three countries can enter 180 countries without a visa.

Position # 10: Lithuania, Latvia and Slovakia

They can enter 179 countries without the need for a visa. Estonia and the Principality of Liechtenstein are ranked 11th, with 178 countries. The number 12 Poland, with 175.

The United Arab Emirates got place 23, reaching a position whose country has risen faster in the Henley index: 38 positions since 2008.

Russia while continuing its invasive policy has descended from position 45 to position 47.

China, the Asian giant, rose from 74 to 68 and has significantly strengthened its position in the ranking due to its economic progress that has made it grow exponentially to its middle class. Chinese citizens can enter without a visa to 70 countries.
