Italian is the language of art, poetry and classical music. Locals are very proud of it, so don’t expect them to speak English. Also don’t ask them if they’re related to the Mafia, as most Italians have nothing to do with it and even are tired of hearing about corruption and other issues. If you plan on visiting Italy, don’t ask for spaghetti with meatballs, pineapple pizza, fettuccine alfredo or other American inventions that are thought to come from Italy.
