Crazy Historical Facts That Nobody Knows About

The Olympics used to give awards in art

Not many people know this, but for the first four decades, the Olympics gave awards for competitions in literature, painting, sculpture, music, and architecture. A total of 151 medals were awarded from 1912 to 1953 to original artistic creations. There is only one English-language book published on the subject, The Forgotten Olympic Art Competitions by Richard Stanton. Most people still have no idea this ever happened.
