The manchineel tree has gained quite a reputation throughout the world. It is even rumored that it killed the famous explorer Juan Ponce de Leon. The tree can be found on coastal beaches and swamps and is native to the Caribbean, northern South America, Central America, Florida State, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
