National Geographic Cover of Twins in Breaks Racism

Marcia and Millie Biggs never suffered racism as nobody would think they are twins. This news is a surprise for many having such different skin colours.

IntoPosts saw in a recent special issue, how the world famous magazine National Geographic explores into the complex question of the human race and questions racism by doing an examination of personal conscience. In this edition, the editor in chief of the magazine declares that “for decades, the journal’s reports have been racist. To correct the error, the first step is to recognize it. ” An honest confession that shows that the magazine genuinely cares about this social problem and has a firm commitment to fight against it.

To illustrate this issue, National Geographic made a very wise decision regarding the cover. In the picture we see the twin sisters Marcia and Millie Biggs. The peculiarity of these twins is that one has black skin and the other white. Even without any explanation, photography alone proves that racism is absurd and throws away all biological pseudo-theories, because these two girls were born from the same womb, the same day, they have the same genetic inheritance and, however, they do not have the skin of the same colour.

This physical difference comes simply from the fact that their parents are an interracial couple. So, Marcia looks more like her mom, who has brown hair and light skin, while Millie pulled out her dad’s black hair and dark skin. Amanda, the mother of these little girls, explains that her twins had so far not to deal with racism; however, their differences provoke people’s curiosity.

Although Amanda believes that her twins are an “exceptional miracle”, geneticist Alicia Martin clarifies that it is very common for dizygotic or fraternal twins to be more like one father than another.

“Everyone think we are JUST BEST FRIENDS”

The twins, understand clearly what racism is about. “Racism is when somebody judges you by your colour and not by yourself,” Millie says. Marcia describes racism as “a negative thing, because it can hurt people’s feelings.”

Although Michael, who owns an auto-repair business, faced hostility at times because of the colour of his skin, he says that now we’re living different times. Neither he nor Amanda had ever witnessed racist behaviour toward their daughters. And both Millie and Marcia say that they never had any racist act when people note the contrast in their looks.
