New Jersey was the first Hollywood
When you think about American movies, Hollywood (California) instinctually comes to mind. However, the birthplace of the American film industry is actually in New Jersey. In fact, the kinetoscope and the kinetograph were invented there. Movies such as The Great Train Robbery and other silent films were produced in the state. California replaced New Jersey as the home of the American film industry by World War I.
