1. Travel & Health insurance. Check with your doctor that you have all of the proper vaccinations, over all those required to travel to your destination. Also, look for a highly covered travel and medical insurance, as you may not want to pay the costs of any unexpected accident.
2. Do a copy of passports. To be safe, make a copy of your passport and leave it somewhere in your luggage and consider making an electronic copy as well.
3. Register with your embassy. You make it easier in case there is a problem in that country, as your government will contact you and get you safe.
4. Don’t show your valuables around. Traveling with valuable clothing or Jewellery on your body can be a problem in some places. In case you need expensive gadgets or similar, you should put them in a safe bag and only take it out when you need it.
5. Write down the phone number to block your credit cards. The quicker call your credit card provider to block your card in case of theft; you will avoid a misuse of them. Most cards display the phone number on the back.
6. Hide passport and cards underneath your cloth. Try to use a money belt to secure my most important items underneath your clothes, it will be difficult to access for pickpockets.

7. Use cash to pay. We understand credit cards are the most common paying methods but also very easy to duplicate and therefore you may be charged through a fraud. There are some credit cards that secure better than others this type of fraud, so when it’s time to pay big charges and need to pay with card as the hotel, make sure you don’t lose sight of the card, so it is not copied, or try to do it online.
8. Be aware of Scams. No place in the world is free of scams. Avoid talking with strangers and put your valuables in a safe place so at your destination no one notice it before you get pickpocketed. The popular scam is when someone offer to clean your jacket or makes you bow down to steal.
9. Watch out your drink. When having fun either at a party or in a club, you should always be careful on your drink. Make sure to see clearly, what is served and never lose sight so no one may put drugs or “roofies” in your drinks.
10. Don’t risk your life. In case you find yourself in a situation where you get in trouble, try to act wisely avoiding any fight or resistance as often it leads to more violence. – it is much better to give away your camera than your health.
11. Radio Taxis, the safest option. In some countries, there are taxis that are not registered not easily recognizable. These private taxis are dangerous and may lead to serious problems for foreigners. The safest option is to use so called registered radio taxis. Make a research to find out what are some fees to make sure they do not over charge you.
12. Write down local emergency numbers. You will be safer if you have at hand the numbers in case of any emergency to call: bank, insurance and family members. Do not wait to find a WiFi hotspot to call but do it the sooner you can.
13. Don’t trust too much your Hostel/Hotel. There are stealing possibilities when leaving the room. Therefore, you should not leave anything valuable at sight and should use the locker or the safe.
LUGGAGE & PACKING
Make a list. It will help you feel organised and ensure you won’t forget anything important. Remember to put inside the essential as possible medicines required as like plasters, painkillers and antihistamines, as well small bottles of shampoo and conditioner, you can buy it while you’re away and it will save weight and space.
14. Pack extra clothes in your in cabin bag. Sometimes the airline may lose or delay your luggage and you have nothing else to wear.
15. Have an easy to identify luggage. Tying a ribbon is not enough. Buy a colourful luggage or a cover with your photo to help you recognise it on the carousel.
16. Do not rely on Luggage’ lock. You’ll be surprised how easy and seamless is to open the luggage zipper, just using a pen. Either do not put inside any high valuable item or buy a zipperless luggage.
17. Avoid expensive overweight. There are easy to use gadgets to weigh your bags before you leave. Make sure you haven’t exceeded airline weight limit.

18. Bring a charger adapter.
Countries have different size plugs and voltage. So if you want to use your iPod, make sure you can charge it.
19. Check the voltage of your electronics.
From my own experience I know that nothing is worse than having an adapter and still not being able to use a blow-dryer or a straightener because the voltage isn’t high enough for that country.
20. Activate your phone’s global capabilities.
There’s usually a charge for doing this, but it is much less than the roaming charges you’ll get if you don’t.
