Uffizi Gallery
For the most impressive and important collection of Renaissance art, head to the Uffizi Gallery. The Uffizi was built by Florence’s most famous family, the Medici. The U-shaped palace was originally indented to be used as government office space. The top floor was originally only accessible to the Medici family and it’s where they kept their lavish collection of Roman sculptures and other precious works of art. The Medici gifted their collection to the city of Florence in 1743 under the pretense that the collection never leave the city. Today, the museum is home to works of art by Italian masters such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
